Why Choose Stollie?
We build Web sites according to a collection of rules we feel must be followed to create a successful product. We believe this simple strategy results in sites that generate results for our clients.
Our Core Beliefs
Speed Rules
The Web pages we create are fast to download — our target is 8 seconds or less on a 56K dialup modem, the connection method used by an estimated 44.4 percent of American home Internet users (source: The Bandwidth Report). In practice, we are often able to achieve a 6-second or faster download time. Pages that load quickly mean a site less likely to bore or, worse, frustrate, users.
Design for Results, Not to Impress Other Designers
Sure, we can design Web sites with long and intricate Flash intros and flocks of eye-popping images on each page. But sites like that usually exist simply to show off the skills of the designer; users certainly don't get much good from these slow-loading and confusing behemoths. We build sites that are clean, attractive, speedy and easy to navigate. A user who can find the information they need is a user who becomes a business lead for you.
Standards are Good Things
Our sites conform to accepted Web standards of coding (see note at bottom of page for a link to information), meaning they will work with new Web browsers as they are released, use less bandwidth (which saves in Web-hosting costs), are simple to maintain, are accessible across a wide range of browsers and platforms, and are friendly to search-engine indexing. And that leads us to our next belief...
Google is King; We Play Nice with the King
One of the best ways to increase the visibility of your Web site is to rank highly in the search returns of engines like Google and Yahoo. These engines send out automatic agents to crawl the Web indexing sites. Using standard-based coding is friendlier and less confusing to these agents, meaning a better chance of a higher ranking. A higher search ranking means more visitors to the site, which means more potential customers.
Accessibility is for All
Our sites are accessible and usable for a whole swath of operating systems and Internet browsers, including text readers for the visually impaired.
Test, Test, Test
To assure the usability of the Web sites we build, we test on all the most commonly used browsers. Our test platforms are:
- Firefox, Version 1.0 and higher, Windows and Mac
- Internet Explorer, Version 5.01 and higher, Windows
- Mozilla 1.6 and higher, Windows
- Netscape 7.1, Windows
- Opera 7.0, Windows
Professionalism is Classic
We design the overall theme of our clients' sites according to the nature of their business, not the Web fad of the moment. Like a navy blue suit, professional-appearing, cleanly designed Web sites are never out of style. Overly trendy sites, however, are more like leisure suits — maybe they were cool for a little while, but looking back on them now...
